Third-party-tested vegan protein powder: which tubs NSF lists
Last reviewed 2026-09-25. Every label figure and certification record below was read from its source on that date, and each links it. No price is shown.
NSF Certified for Sport lists 2 of these 4 vegan protein tubs in the product and size sold on Amazon: Garden of Life Sport Organic Plant-Based Protein, Chocolate, 19 servings, Garden of Life Sport Organic Plant-Based Protein, Vanilla, 19 servings. By their labels they give 20 to 30 g of protein per serving, 440 to 570 g in the tub. The other two are shown but not counted as listed: NSF's Momentous entry is under an older product name, and its BPN entry is a different size (891 g) from the 2 lb tub sold.
How to read this, and what “best” means here
- Two separate questions. Whether a certifier lists the exact tub, and whether the maker calls it vegan. One does not answer the other, and neither means allergen-free.
- Protein, not powder. Protein in the tub is labelled protein per serving times labelled servings, never the tub's weight. Equal grams of different plant proteins are not claimed to be equivalent.
- The order is NSF status, then brand: tubs listed in the product and size sold come first. It is not a quality, taste or effectiveness ranking, and no price is shown.

| # | Product | Protein per serving | Servings | Protein in the tub | NSF Certified for Sport | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Garden of Life Sport Organic Plant-Based Protein, Chocolate, 19 servings | 30 g | 19 | 570 g | listed: NSF Certified for Sport lists Organic Plant-Based Performance Protein Chocolate, 44 g serving, package sizes including 912 g | Amazon → |
| 2 | Garden of Life Sport Organic Plant-Based Protein, Vanilla, 19 servings | 30 g | 19 | 570 g | listed: NSF Certified for Sport lists Organic Plant-Based Performance Protein Vanilla, 42 g serving, package sizes including 855 g | Amazon → |
| 3 | Momentous 100% Plant Protein, Chocolate, 22 servings | 20 g | 22 | 440 g | not counted: NSF lists “Essential Protein 100% Plant Based Chocolate” (719.4 g, 32.7 g scoop, which is 22 servings); the product is now sold as 100% Plant Protein with what Momentous calls an updated formula, so the listing is not counted as covering this tub. Momentous says every batch is NSF Certified for Sport: its claim | Amazon → |
| 4 | Bare Performance Nutrition Vegan Protein, Chocolate, 27 servings | 20 g | 27 | 540 g | not counted: NSF lists BPN Vegan Protein (Chocolate) at 891 g, but the Amazon variant sold is labelled 2 Pound (about 907 g) and nothing on the listing ties it to 891 g, so the listing is not counted as covering this tub | Amazon → |
No price is shown: prices change, and the price at any store, Amazon included, is the one to check. The protein cost calculator works out the cost per 25 g of protein from a price you enter and the protein-in-the-tub figure here.
Label details, vegan basis and allergens
- Garden of Life Sport Organic Plant-Based Protein, Chocolate, 19 servings: label from the Amazon listing (“19 Servings”, “30g Plant-Based Protein”, 2.01 lb) and NSF's listing (44 g serving, 912 g among its package sizes). NSF's label image reads 19 servings of 2 scoops (about 45 g) with 30 g protein; it is the same image for NSF's chocolate and vanilla listings, so it is not tied to one flavor or tub. Garden of Life's own page now sells the chocolate as 29.6 oz (840 g), while the Amazon variant is 2.01 lb (912 g) and says 19 servings; the two tub sizes are not reconciled here. 912 g ÷ 45 g per serving would be about 20 servings; the listing's 19 is used. Ingredients: protein blend per NSF's label image: organic pea protein, organic sprouted navy bean, organic sprouted lentil bean, organic sprouted garbanzo bean, organic cranberry protein (seed); the rest of the list was not shown in the sources read. Allergens: no allergen statement found in the sources read (NSF's label image, Garden of Life's product page, the Amazon listing), so unknown. Vegan: Garden of Life names it a “Vegan Protein Powder” on the listing. Sources: NSF label image (shared by the chocolate and vanilla listings) · Garden of Life product page (chocolate, 840 g).
- Garden of Life Sport Organic Plant-Based Protein, Vanilla, 19 servings: label from the Amazon listing (“19 Servings”, 30 g protein, 1.89 lb) and NSF's listing (42 g serving, 855 g among its package sizes). NSF's label image reads 19 servings of 2 scoops (about 45 g) with 30 g protein, and is the same image as the chocolate listing's; the Amazon variant is 1.89 lb and says 19 servings, which the 19 × 30 g uses. Sources: NSF label image (shared by the chocolate and vanilla listings) · Garden of Life product page (vanilla).
- Momentous 100% Plant Protein, Chocolate, 22 servings: label from Momentous's product page (“20g of complete, plant-based protein”, “22 Servings Per Container”) and the Amazon listing (22 servings). Momentous describes an “updated formula”. Ingredients: PURIS pea protein, organic brown rice protein; other ingredients: cocoa, organic cane sugar, natural flavors, salt, stevia, monk fruit extract (Momentous's product page, chocolate). Allergens: Momentous's own claim: “Vegan and Allergen-Free … without soy or common allergens”; not checked here. Vegan: Momentous marks it Vegan on its product page. Sources: Momentous 100% Plant Protein product page.
- Bare Performance Nutrition Vegan Protein, Chocolate, 27 servings: label from BPN's product page (“20 grams of protein per serving”) and the Amazon listing (“Chocolate, 27 Servings”). the Amazon variant is labelled 2 Pound; NSF's listing is 891 g (about 1.96 lb); the two are not reconciled, so the tub is not treated as the certified size. Ingredients: pea protein, alkalized cocoa powder, medium chain triglyceride powder (goMCT), organic pumpkin seed protein, organic watermelon seed protein, natural flavor, steviol glycosides (Reb M), monk fruit extract, digestive enzyme blend including lactase (DigeZyme), per NSF's label image for its 891 g chocolate listing. Allergens: “Contains: Tree Nuts (Coconut)”, per NSF's label image for the 891 g chocolate listing; the 2 lb Amazon variant's own label was not read. Vegan: BPN sells it as Vegan Protein. Sources: NSF label image (891 g chocolate) · BPN Vegan Protein product page.
