Vegan omega-3 from algae: five products by EPA, DHA and testing
Last reviewed 2026-09-25. Every label figure and certification record below was read from its source on that date, and each links it. No price is shown.
By their makers' labels, these 5 algae-oil omega-3s give 500 to 1,000 mg of EPA plus DHA per labelled serving, 15.0 to 30.0 g of EPA+DHA in the bottle. 1 of them, Momentous, is on NSF Certified for Sport's list in the size sold. Nordic Naturals Algae DHA has no EPA at all. Each row is one exact listing: product and bottle size.
How to read this, and what “best” means here
- There is no single best vegan omega-3. They differ in how much EPA and DHA a serving carries, in the ratio between the two, in the capsule, and in what a certifier has checked. This page does not say how much anyone needs.
- EPA and DHA, not total oil. A label's headline number is often the oil or the total omega-3s. Only EPA and DHA are counted here; other omega-3s, and plant ALA, are not the same thing.
- The order is NSF status, then brand: a product listed in the size sold comes first. It is not a quality or effectiveness ranking, and no price is shown.

No price is shown: prices change, and the price at any store, Amazon included, is the one to check. The calculator works out the cost per gram of EPA+DHA from a price you enter. Label figures: Nordic Naturals, the Supplement Facts on Nordic Naturals' Algae Omega page (EPA 195 mg, DHA 390 mg, total omega-3s 715 mg per 2 soft gels); Nordic Naturals, the Supplement Facts on Nordic Naturals' Algae DHA page (DHA 500 mg per 2 soft gels, no EPA listed); Sports Research, Sports Research's Vegan Omega page (1,020 mg omega-3 per serving, “700 mg of DHA & 280 mg of EPA”), with the Amazon listing's suggested use of 2 softgels daily as the serving; Momentous, Momentous's Vegan Omega-3 page (EPA 500 mg, DHA 500 mg per 2-capsule serving; 30 servings per container); Future Kind, Future Kind's product page: “250mg (1 softgel) and 500mg (2 softgels) a day of EPA and DHA”; the Amazon listing gives 275 mg total omega-3s per softgel. Neither gives EPA and DHA separately.
Capsule, vegan status and other testing
“Vegan” below is each maker's own statement unless a certifier's record is linked. A capsule can contain carrageenan (from seaweed), starch or hypromellose; none of them is animal-derived, but they matter to some readers, so each is listed as the maker gives it.
- Momentous Vegan Omega-3, 60 capsules (30 servings): capsule hypromellose capsule; antioxidants (natural mixed tocopherols, rosemary extract, ascorbyl palmitate), candelilla wax. Vegan: Momentous labels it vegan; NSF's listing records the claim “Ingredients of Animal Origin – Vegan” among the product's claims. Other testing: no other certifier's record checked.
- Future Kind Vegan Omega-3, 60 softgels: capsule not listed: Future Kind says “Carrageenan-free & vegan tapioca softgels” but the pages read give no full ingredient list. Vegan: Future Kind describes the product and its tapioca softgels as vegan. Other testing: no other certifier's record checked.
- Nordic Naturals Algae DHA, 60 soft gels: capsule modified cornstarch, carrageenan, glycerin, sorbitol, purified water. Vegan: Nordic Naturals calls it a “Vegan DHA Supplement”. Other testing: Nutrasource lists Algae DHA as IGEN™ certified, a non-GMO test, not an IFOS purity certificate.
- Nordic Naturals Algae Omega, 90 soft gels: capsule modified cornstarch, glycerin, carrageenan, sorbitol, water, carob color. Vegan: Nordic Naturals marks it Vegan and says it is “Certified 100% vegetarian by the American Vegetarian Association”; the vegetarian certification is Nordic's statement, not checked against the certifier here. Other testing: Nutrasource lists Algae Omega as IGEN™ certified, a non-GMO test, not an IFOS purity certificate. The Amazon title says “715mg Vegan EPA+DHA”; Nordic's label gives 715 mg as total omega-3s, of which EPA plus DHA is 585 mg. The label figure is used. Not linked: Amazon showed no featured offer for this listing on 2026-10-02 and again on 2026-10-03 (US delivery address): no seller held the buy box, and the page offered only “See All Buying Options”. It stays unlinked until a sold-by check passes again.
- Sports Research Vegan Omega-3 from Algae Oil, 60 Plantgels: capsule non-GMO modified tapioca starch, vegetable glycerin, purified water. Vegan: Sports Research shows an “AVA Vegan” (American Vegetarian Association) mark and the listing says “Vegan Certified”; not checked against the certifier here. Other testing: no other certifier's record checked. The page names 1,400 mg: that is algae oil per serving, not omega-3. It is not used in any calculation.
NSF Certified for Sport was searched on 2026-09-25; “not on the list” is a statement about that list, not a finding that a product is untested. Nutrasource's certificate directory was checked for Nordic Naturals only.
